Marlis J. (Mrs. Gene) Mack, age 82, Clark, died in the Beverly Healthcare Center at Clark on Friday evening, August 4, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 2PM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with the Reverend Warren Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and after noon at the Church on Friday. The family moved to the Bradley area in the late 1920s where she attended Blaine Township #31 grade school and then graduated from Bradley High School in 1942. She came to Clark in 1942 where she worked at Macs Caf and the Farm Credit feed & seed office, which later incorporated with the F.H.A. office. Marlis was also a Avon representative for over 25 years. On September 23, 1945 she was united in marriage to G.E. Gene Mack at Clark where they have resided since. While living in Clark she also worked for various other cafs and in 1963 she began working for the City of Clark doing clerical work. She also helped in the family business, Macks Standard, for over 40 years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Baptist Church at Bradley. Since 1942 she has attended the United Methodist Church at Clark joining it in 1948. The Church community was very important to Marlis, being the Methodist Youth Leader for many years, and also being a camp counselor at Methodist Church summer camps for many summers. In addition to being involved in the youth groups, she was a member of the United Methodist Women holding offices locally and also on a district and conference level. Marlis also served as wedding coordinator in the Church until her death. Community was important to her also serving as chairperson of the March of Dimes, Clark County Chapter for over 40 years, a member of the Merry-Go-Round Extension Club, the Clark County Historical Society, a past member of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Family and youth, especially teenagers, were very important in her life. Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband of nearly 61 years, Gene of Clark, children, David Mack and wife Marcia of Bentonville, AR, Carol Sander of Spearfish and Bob Mack and wife Elaine of Clark; 11 grandchildren, John, D. Brian, Dana, Erin and Kristin Mack, Jason & Rob Headlee, Sheila Poppen, Cathy Matthesen, Lori Scheer and Michelle Ford, 17 great-grandchildren, Abbey, Andrew, Autumn, Benjamin, Brian, Caden, Caleb, Caroline, Emma, Ethan, Hunter, Jacob M., Jacob H., James, Michael, Nathan, & William; a brother, Eldon Hartman and wife Dorothy of Bradley and a sister, Gloria Carlson and husband Duke of Renner. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Darwin and a son-in-law, Dale Sander.
