Marise Elaine (Rader) Caster was born in Beloit, Kansas on February 20, 1940, to John and Leora (Lang) Rader. With her father as an engineer for Standard Oil, Marci and her older brother, Jack, attended a number of schools as the family moved to various towns and cities then settling in Elmhurst, IL (a suburb of Chicago). Marci graduated from York High in 1958 and then went to Beloit, WI to college on an academic scholarship her first year before transferring to Kansas State University where she earned a teaching degree.
Marci met Jim Caster at K-State and they were married August 18, 1962. Upon Jim's graduation from Vet School in 1963, they moved to Webster, SD where Jim took a job with Homer Caley and Marci took a first-grade teaching position in the Elementary School. In 1965, they bought the Caley's practice and Marci took on the role of managing the financial aspect of the vet business. Along with professional life, they were raising their children – Mark and Sherri.
Marci enjoyed being active in the community. Along with helping with church activities, cooking meals for the monthly Kiwanis meetings, she was also a Girl Scout leader and served on the council planning and taking girls to Mexico, Washington, DC and even to Europe. Besides organizing and planning trips and day camps, etc. for the scouts, she often drove kids to golf tournaments and worked for the city of Webster managing the Webster Golf Club in the summers. The couple then moved to Clark, SD in 1984, where she did the bookwork for Cross Country Vets and also taught kindergarten for several years.
Marci loved to travel and she and Jim were fortunate to be able to take trips with friends abroad to Spain, Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii and also take Mark and Sherri on trips throughout the United States- meeting up with family and friends from college. Marci enjoyed gardening and also restoring the homes they lived in - stripping wallpaper, restoring woodwork back to its original finish, and painting. She liked crafts, golf, and reading. She was a member of the Clark PEO, a board member of the Emil M. Larson Library and a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church where she was very active in the women's fellowship. She was always busy.
Teaching was a joy to her and besides the love she had for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her other kids were her former kindergarteners. Marci was so blessed when past students came up at games or on the street and gave her a hug and caught her up on what was going on in their lives.
Preceding her in death were her parents John and Leora Rader.
Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of over sixty years, Jim Caster of Clark, her children, Mark (Lisa) Caster of Schaumburg, Illinois, and Sherri (Michael) Coffman of Vassar, Kansas, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother, John (Jennifer) Rader of Barrington, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Clark PEO, the Emil M. Larson Library of Clark, or the Plymouth Congregational Church.
