Marilyn Jean Swanson

Marilyn Swanson, age 76, of Clark, died peacefully with her husband by her side early Saturday morning, August 31, 2019 at Avantara Clark.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and one hour prior to the service.

The funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Furness Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. Casket bearers will be Daniel, Dale and Roger Springer, Scott and Brian Harrington, Russell Drexler, Russ Hurlbert, and Dale Swanson. Honorary bearers will be Marilyn's grandchildren, Lois and Wayne Heuer, Jessie LaPlante and the Hustling Housewives Extension Club. A lunch will follow at the Clark Legion Hall. Burial will be at Prairie Hill Cemetery near Bradley.

Marilyn Jean Harrington was born in Bradley, SD at the McIntyre Hospital to George and Blanche M. (DeLong) Harrington.   She attended school in Bradley graduating in 1961.

For several years, Marilyn worked in Clark for Steve Sherwood.  On June 4, 1968 she married Doug Swanson. They had a son Steve and from then on she became a stay at home mom, working occasionally at law offices in Clark. They lived northwest of Clark in Garfield township on the farm. They raised Angus cattle, sheep, cats, Australian Shepherd dogs and chickens.

In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening raising both vegetables and flowers, and truly loved spending time outdoors.  She was an original member of the Hustling Homemakers Extension Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her son Steve, two brothers, Donald Ray and Danny Dale Harrington and a brother-in-law LaVerne Springer.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Doug of Clark; daughter-in-law, Lisa Swanson of Waubay; grandchildren Shay Swanson, Shanna (Collin) Carroll, Sydney Swanson and Samantha Swanson; a brother Rich (Becky) Harrington and a sister, Dorothy Springer.  Molly & Maggie Drexler have been very close to the family, almost step-grandchildren.
