Marilyn R. Schanbeck was born on February 1, 1953 to parents Harold and Mary (Oldfield) Schanbeck in Clark, SD. For a time she lived in Arizona with her mother and attended a school that specialized in teaching the disabled.   Marilyn then moved to Watertown where she has lived at ATCO (New Horizons) and worked in the wood shop. In recent years, she has lived in the retirement home.  Her mother and she were members at St. Martin Lutheran Church (WELS) in Watertown.

Marilyn liked dogs, cats, babies and listening to Schmidt Country music, especially hearing her niece Camille sing.  She enjoyed fried chicken and especially loved chocolate and pumpkin pie.  Marilyn enjoyed many trips to the Bramble Park Zoo over the years.  In her group home where she resided for over 15 years, she was affectionately known as "Giggle Box".

Preceding her in death were her parents, her siblings Clifford (Carol) Schanbeck, Loris Rosenberg, Lucille Peterson; brother-in-law Donald Schmidt; a niece, Connie Schmidt Marchant, a sister-in-law Karen Schanbeck, and a brother-in-law, John Linngren.

Grateful for having shared in her life are siblings Viola Linngren of Watertown, Helen Schmidt of Willow Lake, Louise (Roger) Danielson of Isle, MN and Lyle Schanbeck of Cedar City, UT; brother-in-law Merle (Marcene) Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn will also be sadly missed by her roommate and the staff of New Horizons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her honor to the Friends of Bramble Park Zoo or Prairie Lakes Hospital Hospice.

Furness Funeral Home of Clark is in charge of arrangements and there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com .
