Marie Hamann

Marie Hamann, age 88, of Clark, SD, walked into the arms of Jesus at her home with her family present at her side on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The mother of 7, she devoted her whole life to her family and helping others.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark, SD from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and an hour prior to service. A rosary will be said at 6:30 PM at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark, SD on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Michaels Catholic Church of Clark, SD on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Burial at St. Boniface Cemetery and a lunch to follow.

Marie was born July 25, 1934, on the Lenards family farm in rural Kranzburg, the oldest of 9 children to parents Frank and Mary (Hulscher) Lenards. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School until the 8th grade, then graduated from Goodwin High School in 1952.

She met the love of her life, Virgil Hamann, and they were married February 4th, 1953 in Kranzburg.

Marie was a homemaker and after her children were older, she worked in home healthcare for Home Connections out of Watertown. She volunteered at Beverly Enterprises, the voter polls, and helped many others by cleaning their homes. She loved gardening with her husband, mending clothes for her family, canning, baking, cooking, and greeting at church. She is known for her chicken and dumplings, chocolate chip cookies, and popcorn balls. Deep faith was also very important to Marie and everyday she could be found in her chair reading her devotional.

There are a million amazing things that could be said about Marie, but in short, her cooking/baking was epic, her strength was immeasurable, her smile and humor was spot on, her faith was deep and contagious, and the joy and love that she gave each one of us is unforgettable. She will truly be missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her children Marlys (Bob) Benson of Clark, Karyl (John) Maas of Crocker, Randy (Paula Schnieder) Hamann of Oakes, ND, Charlene "Chubb" (Loren Stanley) Hamann  of Clark, Gary (Dawn) Hamann of Watertown, Lori (Larry Tschetter) Mehlberg of Rapid City, and David (Peggy) Hamann of Watertown, siblings, Francis (Faye) Lenards of Watertown, Jim (Elaine) Lenards of Kranzburg, Bob (Linda) Lenards of Kranzburg, Diane (Jim) Rother of Hampton, MN, and Kathy (Greg) Wall of Stranburg, sisters in-law, Donna Lenards and Dorothy Hamann, and her 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Lenards, husband, Virgil Hamann, siblings, Donny, Mike, and Henry Lenards, niece and nephew Theresa and Jimmy Lenards, granddaughter, Amber Mehlberg, and great grandson, Jordan Hamann.
