Marian Aveline (Jones) Hallberg, daughter of Austin and Ethel (Jenkins) Jones, was born February 6, 1929 on her grandfather I.L. Jones' ranch near Raymond, South Dakota. The oldest of 5 siblings, she spent her childhood helping on the family farm and riding her pony Topsey to the country school each day. At the age of nine, she was prayed for at her schoolhouse. It was her first introduction to Jesus and made a significant impression on her. She moved to Clark, SD in 1943 to attend high school, worked at Brekke's Café and JC Penney's, and graduated May 1947. At 15 years old, in the Assembly of God basement church in Clark, Marian accepted Christ as her savior. At that church she met her loving husband, Ken Hallberg, whom she married January 15, 1948. They had three children, Katherine Aveline, Douglas Kenneth, and Dennis Raymond.
The family farmed for many years raising lambs, chickens, and dairy cows, as well as hay and grain crops. Life was filled with loads of company at their tiny farmhouse, picnics and bonfires, and so much food, including Marian's special gooey caramel rolls, turkey meals, and thick frosted birthday cakes. Marian also poured out her love of Christ teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, and as a kid's camp counselor with the constant goal of pointing to Christ all the children she encountered.
Throughout her life Marian farmed with her husband, took college art and psychology classes, and worked in the potato plant. For over 10 years Marian also was the owner of Marian's Craft Gifts & Flowers in Clark where she made silk flowers for weddings, taught classes on flower making and sold treasures to help decorate peoples' homes.
In 1989 she and Ken moved to Moorhead, MN where Marian worked in a craft boutique until moving to Minneapolis in 1992 where they worked maintaining the building in which they lived. They finally settled in Andover, MN in 2000 at the Farmstead Senior Living Community where Marian lived independently until shortly before her death. For many years Marian contributed decorations to the Farmstead and sent handmade cards to countless people. Marian made many dear friends during her almost 20 years there and the family has many fond memories of festive holiday and birthday parties. Marian listed in a resume from the late 1980s that her greatest weakness was not knowing when to quit. That perseverance was so evident in her life. Marian was always up for new things. She learned to text, internet bank, and even started painting watercolors in her 80s.
Her passion for life, love of God's creation, and enjoyment of her family was evident. Marian is survived by children Kathy Brown - Blaine MN; Dennis (Dorthea) Hallberg - Peoria AZ; grandchildren Brett & Bryon Hotzler, Lisa & Luke Hallberg; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. She is also survived by her two sisters Bernice Halling of Clark, and Lois Gabriel of Great Falls MT; and sisters-in-law Mary Lou Hallberg of Clark, Mary Ann Hallberg of Sioux Falls SD, and Marilyn Hallberg of Moses Lake WA. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son Douglas; and brothers Richard and Loren.

Marian found music boxes that played What a Wonderful World and gave one to each child and grandchild. She painted a beautiful hand drawn rose on the cover of each one and explained her love for this song as "A special wording of God's love for us. He created this wonderful world for us."
I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself, what a wonderful world I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself, what a wonderful world The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people goin' by I see friends shaking hands saying, "How do you do?" They're really saying, "I love you." I hear babies cry, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll ever know And I think to myself, what a wonderful world Yes, I think to myself What a wonderful world
