Margery L Alexander

Margery Alexander, age 91, widow of Merlin Alexander, died Friday, October 5, 2012 in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 1:00PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with The Reverend Jen Tyler officiating. She was born Margery Leone Headley on December 12, 1920 on a farm near Garden City, SD, the daughter of Charley F. and Maggie (Lien) Headley. She attended rural school in Maydell Township and then graduated from Garden City High School. On November 12, 1942 she was united in marriage to Merlin Alexander at Watertown. The couple lived and farmed near Garden City. From their union two children were born, Norman and Alice Kaye. Merlin died on January 25, 2006. She was an active member of the Heath-Headley American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church both in Garden City. Margery was an avid gardener, especially loving roses and she enjoyed antiques and crocheting. She was also an animal lover who farmed with her husband and son. Even though she spent her entire life in the Garden City area, she cut a stylish figure on the prairie. She also will be remembered as an excellent cook who spent countless hours preparing elaborate meals with many dishes - especially popular were her turkey dinners. Margery always had time to play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and 7 siblings, Charley (Stub), Delbert, Nyal, Roy, Eleanor, Alice and Mabel. Happy to have shared in her life are her children, Norman of Garden City and Alice Kaye Dalager of St. Paul, MN; granddaughters, Erica Dalager and Nissa (Kapa) Parmar, great-grandchildren, Maggie, Alexander, Raphael and Coralina. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Treva Headley of Clark. www.furnessfuneralhome.com for an on-line registry. Furness Funeral Home of Clark is serving the family.
