Margaret Willen July 24, 1917 - March 17, 2014 Margaret Underwood was born in Wilmington NC, the daughter of Thomas A Underwood and Mary Spivey Underwood. She died March 17, 2014 at the Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Facility in Longmont CO at the age of 96. Margaret graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington and then received an RN degree from Mt Sinai Hospital in Baltimore Maryland. She married Abner Willen, a young doctor, in 1941 in Baltimore and they moved to Clark SD. While she was busy with a growing family, Margaret also became involved in community affairs. She was excellent golfer who won many tournaments, a charter member of PEO in Clark and a driving force in building the community swimming pool. Margaret was the Administrator of the Clark Nursing Home, and after she returned to Wilmington following Abner's death in 1969, a Public Health Nurse for New Hanover County. She retired and moved to Boulder CO in 1975. Always artistic, she became an accomplished and gifted potter and her work is appreciated by many friends and family. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Abner, her son Tom, sisters Ada Rountree, Mary Page, Elizabeth Wheeler, brother, Thomas A Underwood Jr and nephew, Thomas Eagleson. She is survived by her children Joan Gillespie (Pat) Canton OH, Scott Willen (Jan) Santa Fe NM, Nancy Van Camp (Bill) Pierre SD, Peggy Jackson (Russ) Longmont CO. her grandchildren Charles Gillepie, Beth Gillespie Slater, Stephanie Willen, Michael Willen, Bill Van Camp Jr, Ben Van Camp, Margaret Van Camp Lundstrom, Tim Jackson, Katie Jackson Wilkerson and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces Kayte Blanke, Rebecca Childress, Barbara Cain, Kathryn Pappas and Stephanie Brown. A celebration of her life and internment of her ashes will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Clark SD at 11:00 am Friday, August 8, 2014. A luncheon will follow in the funeral home reception area. Should there be rain, the services will also be held at the funeral home at 11AM instead of the cemetery.
