Margaret Irene Hahn was born November 29, 1923 on a farm near Doland, SD. She was the oldest child of John F. and Beryl (Neville) Hahn. As a young girl, she attended the Nelson school and later attended Doland High School, graduating in 1941 as her class Salutatorian. While in high school, she participated in debate, oratory/declam, and played the tuba in the band. Following high school, she attended Northern   Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD and upon completion, taught in a small school in Revillo, SD. After teaching in Deuel County, she moved on to teach in Frankfort, SD and later to the Logan School in Clark County.

On June 19, 1946, in Raymond South Dakota, she was joined in marriage to Donald Henry Mehlberg, a Clark County farmer. Margaret continued to teach, serving in the Doland School system for a number of years. During this time she and Donald moved to a farm 8 miles west of Clark and started a family. They had two daughters, Mary Jeanne and Lee Anne. After electing to stay at home for a couple of years to look after her young daughters and help out on the farm, Margaret returned to teaching, eventually taking a teaching job in Clark, SD. She taught in the Clark school system for 25 years. She went back to school and got her Bachelor's degree from Northern College in 1972 and continued teaching in Clark until her retirement in 1983. During her career, she taught first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. When asked which was her favorite, she would smile and say "all of them". She always enjoyed hearing from and visiting with former students.

Following her retirement from teaching, she and Don traveled extensively, visiting family, attending sporting events (especially those their grandchildren were participating in), and seeing many wonderful sites across the United States - including those in southern Texas where they wintered for several years. She and Don also enjoyed working on wood crafts and farm projects together. In 1991 Don and Margaret moved off the farm and into town, making their home in Clark. In addition to those things already mentioned, Margaret enjoyed reading, crocheting and embroidery, watching sports on television or listening on the radio, playing scrabble (especially with her sister Dorothy), having coffee with her many friends in the community, and playing solitaire on her Kindle. She was a long time member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Raymond, SD and the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clark, SD.

Margaret is survived by two daughters: Mary Jeanne (Mehlberg) Fischer (and husband Wayne) of Valley City, ND and Lee Anne (Mehlberg) Schroeder of Brookings, SD; two sisters: Phyllis Kirkwood, El Paso, TX and Dorothy Thompson, Redfield, SD ; six grandchildren: Andy Fischer, Scott Schroeder, Todd Schroeder, Aaron (and wife Kim) Schroeder, Maria (Fischer) Richardson, and Michael Fischer; and seven great grandchildren : Luke Schroeder and Lauren Schroeder (Todd's children), Avery Schroeder and Nolan Schroeder (Aaron's children), Brianna Fischer (Andy's child), Bryce Richardson and Kaitlyn Richardson (Maria's children). She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her granddaughter Lori Ann Schroeder, her sister   Elizabeth Ann Hahn, her brother Maurice Hahn, and her son-in-law Ronald   Schroeder. Margaret will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
