Margaret A Kannegieter

Margaret A. Kannegieter, age 101, Willow Lake, the widow of David Kannegieter, died peacefully on Saturday evening, September 20, 2014 in the Parkview Care Center at Bryant. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5-7 PM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church WELS at Willow Lake and will continue at noon on Thursday in the Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 2PM in the Evangelical Lutheran Church - WELS at Willow Lake with The Reverend Mark Guthmiller officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. The organist will be Carole Kettwig with congregational singing. The casketbearers will be Jay, Michael, Lee and Vernon Waldow and Kerwin and John Kannegieter. She was born on December 9, 1912 near Willow Lake, the daughter of Carl and Elisabeth Wilhelmina (Gammeline) Waldow, one of 15 born to the couple. Lake Township had five schools back then to help accommodate such large families; she attended the Waldow School, as her dad had given the land for the school. She continued her schooling in Willow Lake graduating in 1932. Margaret was proud of the fact that she had attended all the Willow Lake School Alumni reunions since, even this past July!! Because of her parent's death at early ages, Margaret worked at the A. Dyer store to help make ends meet. Growing up on a farm with so many siblings meant they all had to pitch in, whether it was taking care of the chickens, milking the cows, shocking grain, to gardening and canning, all of which Margaret would continue doing after her marriage. She was united in marriage to David Kannegieter at her home on September 7, 1941. In 1943 they purchased their own farm east of Willow Lake where she has lived since, building a new home at that acreage in 1949. The couple farmed and lived there since. David died in July of 1983. Margaret continued living in her own home until recently when she moved into Bryant and into the care center in February of this year. Margaret's church life was very important to her, being baptized in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hague Township and confirmed on June 12, 1927 at the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years. In her free time she enjoyed writing, spending countless hours crocheting, gardening, canning and doing crafts, always having a huge assortment of craft supplies. She and her husband did extensive traveling throughout the United States, traveling to all but 4 states over the years. Her favorite trips were to Alaska and to the East Coast. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, siblings, Dora Bruns, Minnie Johnson, Carl, George, William, Theodore, Martin Waldow, Martha Warkenthien, Elizabeth Kenny, Alvina Otwell, Emma Heismeyer, August, Paul & Henry Waldow.
