Marcene Emaline Anderson was born on July 19, 1931 on a farm near Lake Norden, the daughter of Japhet and Mary (Hendrickson) Anderson. She attended country schools near Lake Norden and then graduated Lake Norden High School in 1949. Following high school, Marcene continued her education at General Beadle College in Madison and Black Hills State in Spearfish where she obtained her teaching certificate. She then taught for two years at country schools near Hayti.
On August 30, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin Hanson at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, her home church. After a honeymoon to the Black Hills the couple lived with his parents, Arthur and Camilla Hanson in Foxton Township, for five years. They lived and farmed in various places in Foxton and Elrod Townships until settling in the old Landekill place in 1970. Melvin died in 2012.
While living on the farm, Marcene worked out of the house as well, working the potato harvest for the Maynard family and then in 1979, she began a career working in several electronic factories including Maxiswitch at Erwin, Midcom, and OEM in Watertown, retiring at age 73. Marcene will long be remembered for her delicious doughnuts, raising a garden and canning, quilting, sewing, and all sorts of other baking. The coffee pot was always on and with fresh baked good, visiting was a favorite pastime as well. In recent years, her great-grandchildren brought her much joy.

She had served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School, and she was active in a circle and the WELCA.
