Lyman R. Wookey, age 76, died at his home near Clark early Monday morning, May 19, 2008. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 6-8PM with Masonic Rites following at 8PM all in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. Burial will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. He was born at home in Day Township on June 13, 1931, the son of Frank and Fay (Hart) Wookey. He attended school in Day Township. At the age of 13, Lymans Father died and it was time for Lyman to take over the farm and he has been involved in the farming operation since that day. He farmed his own land and also had a farming operation with his brothers. They owned and operated the Wookey Potato Company, once one of the largest potato growers in the United States On November 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Nadine Easthouse at the Clark United Methodist Church. The couple has lived and farmed in Day Township. For many years they enjoyed wintering at their home in Wilcox, AZ where they spent countless hours making denim quilts. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Wilcox Museum as a greeter. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent gardening, fishing, hunting and quilting. Second to none though were the times he could spend with his grandchildren and making homemade buck-wheat pancakes. He was very involved with the Clark Masonic Lodge until it closed and then he joined with the Raymond Lodge, recently receiving his 50 year pin. He was a member of the Yelduz Shrine of Aberdeen having served as Potentate in 1987 and was also a Shrine Circus Clown; he absolutely loved making animals from the balloons. He was initiated into Peace Chapter #160, Order of Easter Star at Raymond, SD on February 21, 1979 and had served as Associate Patron for six years. Lyman was a member of the Clark Lions Club and the NFO. He enjoyed fishing in the annual Lion's Fishing Tournament at the Missouri River, winning it on several occasions. He was a member of the Clark United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Frank, a daughter, Debbie Reidburn, and brothers, Kendall and Dale. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife of nearly 55 years, Nadine of Clark, son John of Clark, 6 grandchildren, Joie, Jeff, Jarvis, John, Andy & Harrison, 8 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brooke, Hudson, Justus, Lydia, Hayse, Emma and Lincoln, a sister, Marie (Homer) Knopf of Sioux Falls, son-in-law, Lon (Teresa) Reidburn, sisters-in-law, Janice (Robert) Nordhus and Joy Wookey all of Clark Arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark where you can send an on-line condolence at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
