He was born Luverne Ivan Huber at Rockham, SD, the son of Walter Henry and Lydia Esther (Schultz) Huber. He grew up on the farm near Rockham where he farmed and also assisted other farmers in the area. He graduated from Rockham High School in 1936.
In 1941 he and his brother, Gordon, rented a farm and moved to the Garden City area. In 1942, they bought a farm together and continued farming until Luverne entered the Army where he served 4 years as a mechanic during World War II. He had tours in Africa and Italy. Upon discharge, he became a proud member of the American Legion in Henry and Clark.
After serving his country, Luverne bought and operated his own farm near Henry. After retirement, he continued to live on the farm until he moved into the Garden Grove Apartments in Clark. He had some health issues later in life which caused him to move to the White Care Center to be near his brother Gordon and his niece, Judy Rennich. After the White Care Center closed, he moved to the Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings where he resided for a year.
Luverne's passion was farming and he thoroughly enjoyed the land. He enjoyed being driven past his old farm to check on crops and livestock.
While living in the care center, bird feeders were placed outside his window and bird watching became a favorite activity. Luverne enjoyed outings and any learning opportunity.
Luverne's kindness and generosity benefited family, students and favorite charities. It brought warmness to his heart when he was able to help others.
Survivors include a brother, Charles (Mary) Huber of Tillamook, OR.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Gordon Huber, Lorraine Schneider, Lucille Larson, and Alta Sundquist.
