Lucille R. Fick, age 101, Willow Lake, died early Monday morning, March 21, 2011 in the Golden Living Center at Clark where she has resided the past 5 years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Grace Lutheran Church at Willow Lake with Vicar Jonathan Boynton officiating. JoAnn Eggleston will be the organist with Melanie Schmidt and Dorothy Haug singing. The honorary casketbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews. The active casketbearers will be Curtis Fick, Kirk Henderson, Ryan Carson, Gayloard Hansen, Terry Evenson and Jim LaMont. Military rites following the Church service will be conducted by the Johnny Fonken American Legion Post #113 of Willow Lake and the South Dakota Army National Guard Honor Guard detail. Spring burial will be held in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church in Willow Lake and will continue after 10AM on Saturday morning in the Church. The Furness Funeral Home of Clark is serving the family. She was born Lucille Rosala Fick in Rosedale Township, Clark County, west of Willow Lake, SD, on January 3, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Agnes (Schuett) Fick. She attended country school and then graduated from Willow Lake High School on May 26, 1927 as Class Valedictorian. Following high school, she attended and graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science on June 12, 1931. Lucille was a member of the National Social Science Honor Society. After college she then taught country school in Rosedale Township in Clark County from 1932-1935. She entered the United States Navy in July of 1944 and served her country honorably during WW II until April of 1945. She was stationed at Lakehurst Naval Air Station where she worked on aerial maps. Following her military service Lucille returned to the farm in Rosedale Township where she lived until moving into the Golden Living Center at Clark in May 31 of 2006. While living on the farm, she thoroughly enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and being outdoors. One would never leave her home without having something to eat, whether it was a sandwich, a sweet or Jell-O. Lucille was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Willow Lake where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild for many years and had also served on the Church Council. She also served on the Rosedale Township election board for several years. Lucille was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for some 35 years. Preceding her in death were her parents Agnes (Schuett) and Henry Fick and two brothers, Harland and Burdette. Grateful for having shared her life is her sister-in-law, Minerva Fick of Watertown- formerly Willow Lake, two nieces, Delores (Earl) Henderson of Clark, LaVonne Carson of Wakefield, NE, a nephew, Dennis (Pam) Fick of Willow Lake, 7 great nieces and nephews and 9 great-great nieces and nephews.
