Loris N. Kannegieter, age 85, Lake Norden, formerly of the DeSmet/Willow Lake area, died late Thursday, August 31, 2023 in the Lake Norden Care and Rehabilitation Center at Lake Norden.

A Celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Lake Gospel Church in Willow Lake, SD on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at the Collins Cemetery of Willow Lake, SD. Pastors Jim Uthe and Steven Johnson will be officiating.

She was born Loris N. Warkenthien on September 26, 1937 on a farm the miles east and one mile north of Willow Lake, the daughter of Emmett and Clara (Peterson) Warkenthien. She attended Peterson School in Lake Township and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1954. Loris worked at the 1st National Bank of Watertown for a year and then the years at the Willow Lake Bank.

On June 1,1957, she was united in marriage to Harry Dean Kannegieter. The couple moved to Brookings for a year and then Aberdeen for three years where she worked in banks in both cities. They lived in Bancroft for four years and then moved to Brandon for three years. While there, Loris worked at a bank in Sioux Falls for a year. Harry Dean and Loris adopted Brad while living in Bancroft and then Larry and Lori while living in Brandon.

She enjoyed teaching children in Sunday School and Bible School and had a Good News Club in her home for boys and girls for many years. She attended many teacher training classes through Child Evangelism Fellowship. Loris enjoyed volunteering a week each year at the International Headquarters of CEF at Warrenton, MO. She was a member.

Harry Dean and Loris enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. She wrote "The love and joy of my life was Harry, our children, and three grandchildren."

Loris was a member of the Presbyterian Reformed Church United of Willow Lake and their ladies aid and later the Christian Missionary Reformed Church at DeSmet.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harry Dean Kannegieter, son Brad Kannegieter, a sister in infancy, brothers, Robert and Gene (Delores) Warkenthien, sisters, Shirley (Vernon) Stroschien and Nola (Alan) Tellinghuisen, and brother-in-law, James Brekke.

Survivors include her children, Larry (Betty) Kannegieter of DeSmet, and Lori Kannegieter of CO, grandchildren, Damian (Jenn) Kannegieter, Tawnii (Cameron) Garry, and Nathaniel Dvorak, great grandchildren, Embrie Garry, Owen and Brayden Kannegieter, and on the way, baby boy Kannegieter. She is also survived by sisters, Lavonne Brekke, Gaylen (Larry) Grensberg, sister-in-law Bobette Warkenthien, and several nieces and nephews.
