Loren T Larson

Loren T. Larson, age 75, of Volga, SD, formerly of Clark, SD, died on Tuesday evening, June 7, 2011, Brookings Hospital in Brookings, SD. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Furness Funeral Chapel in Clark. The Rev. Steve Maas of the Antelope Church near Gary, SD will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark. The pianist will be Dorothy Fuller. The soloist will be Wendy Christman who will sing "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The honorary casketbearers will be Gary Person and Tenny Bishop. The active casketbearers will be Mike Neve, Neil Bishop, Mike Boyer, Aaron and Mark Martinson and Robbie Kleen. Mr. Larson was born in Harrisburg, SD on April 11, 1936, the son of Tennie and Esther Larson. He attended school at Harrisburg through the 8th grade and then worked for and assisted his father in the carpentry business until his father's death when he took over the business. Loren became a punch press operator by trade. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Cook on February 19, 1972 in Minneapolis, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Minneapolis, moved to Watertown, SD in 1977 where he worked for Koehn Manufacturing, and then to Oklahoma City and Geary, OK where he worked for Midwest Medical. The family returned to Watertown for a short time and then moved to Clark in 1993 and his wife passed away in June of that year. Shortly after his wife's death, Loren moved to Gary, SD. He met and married Verna Mae (Schneekloth) Patch on January 11, 1995. They resided at Gary for nearly 15 years before moving to Brookings. Verna passed away in 2010 and Loren remained in Brookings until moving to Volga in March of this year. Among his hobbies, Loren enjoyed fishing second to none. He also enjoyed playing cards and dice. Looking after his grandchildren was also very special in his life. Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life are his son, Tennie Larson of Geary, OK; his daughter, Julia Larson of Volga; two step-daughters, Lori (Mark) Martinson of Brookings and Coralee (Mike) Multerer of Brandon; grandchildren, Stacy, Aaron, Amber, Tara and Katrina; and great-grandchildren, Drew and LeeAnne. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward; two sisters, Loretta and Charmaine; and his wives, Kathleen on June 24, 1993 and Verna on March 2, 2010.
