Loren E. Hanson, age 79, of Clark, SD died early Monday morning, June 28, 2010, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2nd, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clark. The Reverend Dayne Zachrison will officiate. Burial will follow in the South Elrod Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and prior to the service at the church on Friday.
The organist will be Wanda Bethke and the soloist will be Carol (Maynard) Fuller, accompanied by Dorothy Fuller. She will sing "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Honorary casketbearers will be the members of the Clark Lions Club and all family and friends. The active casketbearers will be Trent and Matt Harris, John and Mark Maynard, Howard Easthouse and Bob Seefeldt. The ushers will be DuWayne Wallen and Allen Smith. Military rites will be conducted by the Heath-Headley American Legion Post #199 of Garden City, assisted by the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post #60 of Clark and the Military Honor Corp of the South Dakota Army National Guard.
Loren Eugene Hanson was born on March 16, 1931 in Elrod Township, Clark County, South Dakota, the son of Lawrence and Martha W. (Anderson) Hanson. The family farmed near Naples, SD where Loren started school. The family then moved to Elrod Township where they farmed and Loren attended the Elrod Grade School through the eighth grade. He completed his education at Clark High School in Clark, graduating with the class of 1949. He then farmed with his family until entering the United States Air Force in January of 1953.
Loren was united in marriage to Carleton Seaberg on September 6, 1953 at the South Elrod Church. Following the completion of his military service in 1957, the couple began farming in Elrod Township and continued their farming operation there until moving into Clark where they were currently residing.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clark, the Clark Lions Club and was a member of the Heath-Headley American Legion Post #199 of Garden City, having recently received his 50-year pin. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Watertown. Among his hobbies were bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards and wood carving. Loren and Carleton enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for the past 18 years.
Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life and his wife, Carleton Hanson of Clark; one son, Mark Hanson of Springfield, IL; two daughters, Valerie Hanson of Cedar Rapids, IA and Sherry (Wayne) Harris of Valentine, NE; two grandsons, Trent and Matt Harris; one brother, Everett (Erlene) Hanson of Clark; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
