Leonard Lynn Feuerhelm, 87, formerly of Watertown and Vienna areas, died early Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017 at the Arlington Care Center.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel of Clark. Reverend Keith Garness will officiate the services.
Leonard Lynn Feuerhelm was born July 31, 1929 to Merrit and Ethel (Fulton) Feuerhelm near Pipestone, MN. He grew up in rural Pipestone and attended the Verdi, MN school through eighth grade. Leonard enlisted in the National Guard in 1948 and went to active duty in the Army in November of 1951 and served until September of 1952.
On October 3, 1953, he married Lois Ann Madtson. Leonard lived in many different places throughout his life from southwestern Minnesota to eastern South Dakota. He spent time in Pipestone, Ruthton, Luverne, Hardwick, Steen and Heron Lake, MN and Dell Rapids, Vienna, Bristol, Ortley and Wallace, SD. Leonard enjoyed farming and in later years, he enjoyed trucking. He loved to listen to old time country music with Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard being a couple of his favorite musicians. He had the opportunity to be entertained by Johnny and June Cash in his younger years while he was serving in the Army.
Leonard is survived by his children Larry Feuerhelm of Watertown, Steve (Nancy) Feuerhelm of Staples, MN, David Feuerhelm of Sisseton, Lori Feuerhelm of Watertown, Danny (Kari) Feuerhelm of Kranzburg, and Ronald (Barb) Feuerhelm of Watertown; brothers Tom (Barb) Feuerhelm of Madison, MN and Sister Jo Lana Ehli of Watertown; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Lois, his son Jim Feuerhelm, a brother Mike Feuerhelm, twin brothers Donald and Ronald at birth, and a nephew Dale Hendrickson.
