Burial will take place later this spring in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Leo A. Seefeldt, 91, of Kent, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Falls Village Retirement in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He was born July 6, 1921 in Willow Lake, SD to Herman Adolf and Hannah (Wright) Seefeldt. Leo was a proud member of Willow Lake High School's Class of 1939. He was in attendance last July for the 100th anniversary of the school. In 1942 Leo was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the 752nd Company tank battalion which fought across North Africa, landed in Italy, and liberated Rome. When he was mustered out in 1946, he had attained the rank of Sgt. Major. This experience changed his life. He took advantage of the GI Bill, earned a degree in accounting, married a woman from Ohio, Florence Eckstein, and had two children. During the 1960's Leo married Eunice Schilawski of Green Bay and lived with her and their son David in Shawano. In the 1980's Eunice and Leo moved to her hometown of Green Bay. Both were ardent Packer fans with season tickets for many years. Leo was especially proud of his attendance at the "Ice Bowl" in 1967. His first professional job was as a federal bank examiner. After that he served as an accountant in major businesses in Youngstown, Ohio before moving to Wisconsin. He became a controller at Goodman Lumber Company until 1965, and then took a job as Vice-President and then President of Menominee Enterprises in Neopit, Wisconsin. He was very proud of the Legend Lakes vacation development which he believed would help bring jobs and prosperity to the Menominee Nation. The times were against his views in the 1970's and he reluctantly left this position in 1972 and opened his own real estate firm with Century 21. Seefeldt Realty, located in Shawano, Wisconsin was successful in both commercial development and residential real estate into the 1980's. Even in his later years Leo continued to work in real estate and then drove trucks and transported cars all over the eastern half of the country well into his 80's. He only quit working when he needed to spend more time caring for his wife. After her death in 2009, he moved to the Akron, Ohio area and was able to spend his last few years becoming closer with his children, Alison and Fritz and their families. Leo was a member of the Incarnation Lutheran Church in Green Bay, WI, the American Legion and was Past President of Rotary in Shawano, WI. He enjoyed attending the Haymaker Farmers Market in Kent and was a former resident of Silver Oaks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; sister, Alice; brother, Arvard; and grandson, Paul Schilawski. He is survived by children, Frederick "Fritz" C. (JoAnne Jones) Seefeldt of Kent Linda Alison Seefeldt of Akron and David Schilawski of Neenah, WI; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters, Violet Mundhenke, Doris Kono, Marjorie White, Virginia Abild, Frances Potter, Beverly Armfield.
