Lavon "Bonny" Schulz, age 88, Clark, the widow of Glen, died peacefully in the Golden Living Center at Clark with family at her side on Sunday evening, October 18, 2015. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue on Friday at 9AM in the Church at Clark. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. The music will be presented by Wanda Bethke and Pat Seefeldt at the keyboards, with Roger Nordhus and Erica Benson providing special music. Casketbearers will be grandsons, Riley, Parker, Matthew, Kyle, and Chance. A luncheon will follow the services with burial following lunch in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was born Lavon Rae Guffey on September 16, 1927 in Lincoln Township, near Clark, the daughter of Orville and Bessie (Kelley) Guffey. She joined an older brother of five years, Gurney, and 12 years later another brother, Jack, joined the household. When Bonny was about 4, they moved to a place about 5 miles south of Clark and 3 miles west where she attended school. The family moved during those hard times to Missouri for a brief time and the next spring, returned to South Dakota when Bonny was in the 5th grade. Bonny graduated from the 8th Grade in Darlington Township. Following her school she baby-sat for neighbors including Mrs. Patton. On October 3, 1944 she was united in marriage to Glen Schulz at the United Methodist parsonage in Clark. They took a bus from Raymond to begin their honeymoon in the Black Hills. After returning from the honeymoon, they lived on a farm with his parents and then moved and rented a farm 7 miles south and two miles west of Clark. Glen died in 2000 after a short diagnosis with cancer. In 2008 she moved into the City View Apartments and in July became a resident of the Golden Living Center at Clark. Bonny worked out of the home after her youngest, Connie, was about three. She worked on the potato harvests, and Kent's Bakery and Café. She began a career in laundry and dry cleaning when she went to work for Leo Poirier for 10 years and in late December of 1967 they moved into Clark and purchased the King Koin laundromat which she operated until 2001. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, a circle group and served as chairperson of the funeral committee for many years. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, raising flowers - especially houseplants, and playing pinochle. Over the years she also spent many hours camping, fishing and traveling to Hawaii and the Virgin Islands, second to none though was the time she spent at home with a faithful 4-legged companion, Brandy, whom they had for 19 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, Sherry Rudloff, grandchildren, Tracy, Tina and Melissa,a brother, Gurney (Coralyn) Guffey, and a son-in-law, Keith Kupec. Survivors include a son, Bill (Katy) Schulz of Watertown, a daughter, Connie Kupec and a son-in-law, Leonard Rudloff both of Brookings, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jack (Gloria) Guffey of Rapid City.
