Dr. Larry C. Caster, age 80, of Watertown, formerly of Clark, the husband of Sandy Caster, died Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 14, 2020 from 5-7 pm at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 1PM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastors Mark Tracy and Scott Dempster officiating. Burial will be in Clark in the spring.
Larry Charles Caster was born October 23, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas to Victor and Grace (Mead) Caster. He attended Douglas High School where he was a two-time state champion wrestler and graduated in 1957. He then went on to attend veterinary school at Kansas State University graduating in 1963. One of his first veterinary jobs that he truly loved was with George Chapman in Beloit, KS.
In 1962, he married Janet Adcock. To this union, sons Jeff, Jon, and Joe were born. The family moved to Clark in 1972 where he owned and operated the Cross Country Veterinary business. At that time, this was the only veterinary business in the area so Larry kept busy and came to know all the local livestock and pet owners. Later his brother Jim would join him in the business.
He enjoyed spending time with his boys and watching them participate in sports, especially as they excelled in wrestling. He and Janet would divorce in 1986.
In 1994, he married Sandy (Larson) Stevens. He sold the vet business in 2005, although he continued to help out there for a while. Larry and Sandy loved to go camping with friends and their annual fishing trip to West Whitlock. He was a Shriner and liked playing golf but animals were his life. He enjoyed farming and being outdoors but especially loved taking care of his cows and calves. He treasured driving around the country checking the crops and cattle every chance he got!
He entered Jenkins Living Center in November of 2014 where he resided at the time of his death.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of over 25 years, Sandy Caster of Watertown; sons Jeff (Carrie) Caster of Mt. Dora, FL, Jon Caster of Nacogdoches, TX and Joe Caster of Watertown; step-sons Eric (Nichol) Stevens of Clark, John (Samantha) Stevens of Stillwater, MN, Jeff (Scarlett Smith) Stevens of Jackson, TN and Lee (Jennifer) Stevens of Milan, TN; 7 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters. He also leaves siblings Eric (Sue) Caster, Jim (Marcie) Caster, Shirley Ann "Annie" Rush, Vicky Sue "Sudie" (Bryce) Wanless and Charlotte "Chardy" (Richard) Trent.
Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings Doris "Deannie" (George) Belknap, Deloris "Teets" (Roy) Ewing, and 2 brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated so the family can make a donation to Jenkins Living Center.
Arrangements are in care of Furness Funeral Home of Clark where there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com .
