Larry Brenden, age 77, Clark, died peacefully late Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home with family at his side after a courageous and long battle due to cancer. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue after 9AM at the Church on Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10:30AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Gary Anderson officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller with Roger Nordhus as soloist. The casketbearers will be Tim & Dennis Brenden, Aaron & Terry Wicks and Joe and Collin Guest. Burial will be private at a later date. A flag presentation ceremony will be held at the end of the funeral service in the Church with the presentation and folding being handled by the South Dakota Army National Honor Guard and the Raymond American Legion Baker Post #209. He was born Larry Lee Brenden on September 19, 1936 to Sigurd and Jennie (Jorgenson) Brenden at Vienna, SD. Larry was one of 11 children born to the couple. He was schooled at Vienna. In the fall of 1953 he was inducted into the US Air Force and served his country honorably until being discharged in 1957. Larry has been a member of the American Legion Baker Post #209 of Raymond for many years. After his discharge he returned to Clark County and later married Shirley Ann Knaack on February 9 of 1959 at St. James, MN. The couple lived and farmed in Clark County where he also hauled hay and railroad ties. He worked for Hartley-Schultz Construction hauling gravel for many years and also for the Clark Farmer's Elevator. Larry will also be long remembered for seeing him helping his son Todd, deliver the Watertown Public Opinion. When Larry was younger he played softball and bowled. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends, going to the field house in Clark to work out and walk and especially visiting with all! One of his biggest pleasures in life was spending time with Shirley and going on cruises with their family. Larry was baptized and confirmed in the Pleasant Lutheran Church near Vienna and currently was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter Debbie, and siblings, Melford, Ivan, Lyle, O'Dean and Dick Brenden, Juliet (Larry) Batty, Arlene (Rodney) Kvernevig, Doris Forest and Ruby in infancy.
