Kenneth "Kenny" Earl Hiles

Kenneth E. "Kenny" Hiles, age 70, died on January 25, 2022 at his home in Doland.

A Liturgy of the Word will be on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Turton and officiated by Father Gregory Tschakert.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass in Turton.  Following mass, refreshments will be served in the Church basement.  A burial will be at a later date.

Kenneth Earl Hiles was born on December 7, 1951 in Huron, SD to Elmer E. and Margaret (Walth) Hiles.  The family lived in Doland and he graduated high school in 1970.  Growing up, he had a love for cars, but hobbies were few as his dad used to say, "If there's time for fishing, you're not working hard enough."  After high school, Ken owned a gravel truck and did various jobs around the state alongside his brothers- in-law.

On August 18, 1972, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Fortin at St. Joseph Church in Turton, SD.  Ken and Bonnie together worked corn harvest in Kansas for Lon Wurz, and in 1979, he bought the family business, Hiles Construction.  Health forced him in recent times to retire.

Some of the things in life he enjoyed most were tinkering in his shop, watching westerns and crime shows, reminiscing about the "good ole days", driving around, and giving whisker rubs.  Most of all he enjoyed his family and dirt work.  At one time, Kenny was a member of the Doland Fire Dept, had served on the Doland City Council, and also had been the Doland Mayor.  He also enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey, going to the races, bowling, and watching his kids & his grandkids participate in activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents; mother-in-law, Lorene Fortin; brothers, Luverne, Ronald, Ernie, Harley and Don Hiles; and sisters, Ardean and Elaine.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Doland; Daughters, Angelia Hiles of Aberdeen, Andrea Hiles and her children Makiya and Blayken of Ellendale, ND, and Adrianne (Jason) Meyer and their children, Hadlyn, Macey, and Creyton all of Sioux Falls; Brother, Milo (Deborah) Hiles of Turton, SD;  Special 'adopted' sons Brandon Wenholm, Jarod Rahm, and Mike Lerew; and Sisters-in-law, Mary, Donna, and Nancy Hiles.  Kenny also leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of other family members on the Fortin and Hiles sides.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials in his memory given to help cover funeral expenses.

The Furness Funeral Home at Clark is serving the family where there is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
