Kathryn Jean Frey

Kathy Frey, age 67, of Watertown, SD died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 4, 2022, with family by her side.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2022, from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark and one hour prior to the services.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 11 AM at the Watertown Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dick Poppen officiating and Marsha Bullis providing the music.

Kathryn Jean Bastian was born September 10, 1955 in Watertown, SD to parents Virgil and Marjorie (Sharp) Bastian. She joined a brother, Ron, at home and grew up on the family farm.  She attended Henry School graduating in 1973. She then attended South Dakota State University receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1977.

On June 5, 1976, she married Bob "Tiny" Frey.  They made their home at Lake Kampeska and she taught for two years at Henry High School.  Kathy did not enjoy teaching at all so she and Tiny and their two children, Michael and Christina, moved to Raymond, SD to own and operate "Tiny's Bar".  They lived in Raymond for ten years before moving back to Lake Kampeska. Tiny died on April 20, 2005.

Kathy worked at Smith Equipment/Miller Electric for over 30 years.  She enjoyed fishing, hunting, crafts, painting pumpkins from their huge pumpkin patch, reading, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Her favorite weekend activity was having sleepovers with her granddaughter Kaylee where they would go shopping and find treasures at garage sales. Kathy was a kind, quiet person who loved her family and spending time with them.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and several aunts and uncles.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Michael (Marlee) Frey of Sioux Falls and Christina Frey of Watertown; her grandchildren, Kaylee, Carson, and Millie; her brother, Ron (Peggy) Bastian of Henry; a sister-in-law, Mary (Jerry) Tordoff of Watertown; aunts Marivonne Bastian of Clark and Janice Sharp of Watertown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
