Kathryn Becker, age 100, formerly of Raymond, South Dakota, died at Avantara in Clark, South Dakota in the early morning on Sunday, April 10, 2022.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 9-11 at the Clark Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 11 AM at the Clark Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Tracy officiating. Pat Seefeldt will be the pianist. The casketbearers will be Chad & Ryan Thomas, Waylon Becker, Doug, Craig, and Tracy Palmer. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery of Clark.
Kathryn Marie Kruthoff was born at Dow City, Iowa on July 12, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Lohrman) Kruthoff. At a young age, in 1923, the family moved their entire livestock and household goods to a farm south of Raymond. She attended country school and then Logan High School where she graduated from in 1939.
On October 2, 1939 she was united in marriage to Robert Ray Becker in Iowa. They returned to the Raymond area where they lived for many years until moving into Clark in 1962. While living at Raymond they owned and operated a café and later worked in the grocery store at Raymond. For a period of time, during WWII, they lived in St. Louis, MO, and returned a couple of years later. Earlier they lived and worked in Bison, SD and then in Sioux Falls at John Morrell. Ray died on November 15, 1997.
After moving to Clark in the early 60's, she worked as a cook and waitress at several local cafes including the M & M Truck Stop, Louise Rennie at the Pantry, at Kents Bakery and for Wayne Keyes at the Clark Bowling Alley & Café. Kate as she became known as, also worked for Donna Clausen at Donna's Café and the Alexanders in the same location. Kate will long be remembered as a wonderful cook, and efficient waitress and a loving Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Great-Great-Grandma. She had a work ethic second to none.
Kate loved playing cards including "Go Fish". She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Ray, all of her 10 siblings, a grandson, a granddaughter, and three great-great-granddaughters. Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Ronald Palmer.
Among survivors are her children, Linda Palmer of Clark, Barbara Gibson of Cameron, SC, and Harlan (Deb) Becker of Watertown, 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
