Kathleen McHenry, age 94, died peacefully with family by her side on Monday morning, June 7, 2021 at her home in Clark.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, June 11, 2021, from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Clark with the Reverend Gary Anderson officiating. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist.  Kathleen's grandsons will be the casket bearers and the honorary casketbearers will be her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Ada (Warkenthien) McHenry was born August 29, 1926, to parents Harry and Martha (Waldow) Warkenthien.  She attended Warkenthien Country School all eight grades and then graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1944.  She attended General Beadle's Teacher College of Madison and taught country school for four years.

She married Charles Hudson McHenry on October 16, 1948, in Montivideo, MN. They farmed for seven years southeast of Clark. Her husband then joined the U.S. Border Patrol and they lived in Del Rio, TX, Port Huron, Algonac, and Marysville, MI. Kathleen attended Eastern Michigan and St. Clair County Community College. She taught nine years at Woodland School Marysville, MI. After Charles' retirement and his passing on December 2, 1981, Kathleen returned to Clark in September 1982 where she taught for twelve years before retiring from Clark Schools.

While living in Michigan for twenty-five years, she was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, belonged to Marysville Women's Club where she held offices, the P.H. Child Study Club, Welcome Club, taught Sunday School, and held church offices in Pilgrim Lutheran in Marysville. Kathleen was awarded the 1970 Marysville High School Athletic Booster of the Year and organized the Marysville High School Music Club.

In Clark, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, belonged to the Ladies Aid and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for thirty years where she served as president for four years and was membership chairperson for twenty-three years.

She enjoyed entertaining, canning, decorating cakes, loved playing bridge and wrote many letters and cards.  Kathleen enjoyed helping people. She loved having her family visit her and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Charleen (Carl) Boland of Saginaw, MI, and Patricia McHenry of Rock Valley, IA; sons, Mark (Sandra) McHenry and Larry (Kathy) McHenry of Clark; fourteen grandchildren, Kelley, Autumn, Kristi, David, Katie, Jason, Tyler, Steven, Alexander, Brandon, Laurel, Hudson, Hayden, and Maggie; and eighteen great-grandchildren with two more due before the end of 2021. She is also survived by siblings Wilma VanderLinden of Sheldon, IA, and Alma Bauman of Clark; sister-in-law Donette Warkenthien of Clark and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Preceded in her passing were her parents; her husband, Charles; sisters Violet (Walter) Kruse and Fern (John) Loewen; brothers Marvin, Martin, Lyle, Roger, and Donald (Helen); brothers-in-law, Robert Bauman and Robert VanderLinden; nephew, James and great-nephews Nathan and Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Willow Lake Alumni Association or the Clark American Legion Auxiliary.
