Julia Maas, 97, of Crocker, passed away on August 24, 2025, at the Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Crocker Lutheran Church in Crocker, with interment immediately following the service at St. Thomas Cemetery in Crocker. A meal and time of fellowship will follow the interment at the Bradley Community Hall in Bradley, SD. Visitation will be held the evening prior, Monday, September 1, 2025, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Furness Funeral Home in Clark.
Julia Maas was born on August 12, 1928, to Jacob and Bessie (Hutchinson) Lederman in Crocker, South Dakota. Julia attended school in Crocker, before completing her education in Clark. On August 25, 1946, Julia was united in marriage to Floyd A. Maas in Crocker. Following their marriage, the couple settled on a farm four miles west of Crocker, where they farmed throughout their life. While Floyd farmed, Julia milked cows, and raised both pigs and chickens.
Julia was an involved member of the Crocker Lutheran Church, including participating in the WELCA ladies' groups and the quilting circle. Julia was a very talented crafter, enjoying quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and woodworking. She also spent time playing cards, reading, watching Minnesota Twins baseball, and especially cherished rides in the 1969 Cadillac. Julia will be remembered as a caring, kind, and hardworking mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who valued time spent with family.
Julia is survived by her children: Virginia (Jim Taylor) Maas, John (Karyl) Maas, Vivian (Mike Lowe) Koehn, and Floyd J. (Vikki) Maas; grandchildren: Garrett, Melissa, Mike, Chad, Brad, Jennifer, Jeff, Tasha, and Tyler; 17 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; her beloved cat, Punkin, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd A. Maas; her sister, Charlotte who passed away during infancy; and her siblings.
Furness Funeral Home is assisting the Maas family with arrangements.
