Joyce E. Gross, age 89, widow of Art Gross, of Crocker, died Thursday, March 4, 2021 at her home.

At her request, cremation will take place. Private family graveside services will be held in the spring.

She was born on January 25, 1932 at home three miles west of Crocker, delivered by her dad. She was the daughter of Jesse and Ruth (Keyser) Regnier. She attended school at Mallard Slough Spring Valley #37 and the Olson school in Clark Country through the 8 th grade. She helped on the family farm doing chores, milking cows, shocking grain, herding cows, and also helped in the house. In 1949, she worked at the Flatten Store in Crocker and also worked in Watertown in an egg factory and Pepsi Cola Co. In 1950, she moved back to the farm as her mother was sick.

On March 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to Arthur R. Gross in the American Lutheran Church in Webster. Following their marriage, they moved to Lannon, WI, where Art worked at the rock quarry. They returned to the Crocker area October 31, 1951. In 1953, they moved to Box Elder, where Art worked at the Ellsworth Air Force Base. In 1955, they moved back to the Crocker area. She worked at the Flatten Store cream station and Post Office in Crocker. In 1962, she was also a sub school bus driver for the Crocker School Spring Valley #38 until the school closed in 1967.

In 1966, she worked at the Sportsman Bar in Crocker and became manager. In 1979, Joyce and Jim Loterbauer, Jr. bought the bar. In 1982, she sold her half to Jim Jr. and Debra Loterbauer; then worked at the store again. In 1982, she worked at Chef Ready Potato Plant in Clark. A year later, she worked at Graceland Gardens storing and loading potatoes out over winter. She worked there for several years and became a Potato Inspector.

She was a confirmed member of the Crocker Lutheran Church in Crocker and a member of the Crocker Saddle Club. She was a treasurer at the Crocker School, Spring Valley #38 and was a clerk for the Spring Valley Township for several years.

She raised big gardens and did a lot of canning, helped Art cut scrap iron and sorted metals. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, doing photo albums from back to 1937. She has done several scrapbooks. She enjoyed her grand-daughters very much and they usually stayed with her and Art during the summers.

Grateful for sharing her life are son, Lonnie Gross and wife Carla from Gillette, WY; son-in-law, Jim Jr. of Crocker; 5 grand-daughters, Tracey and husband Thad Handran of Wyoming, Stacey and husband Duane Wrenn of Wyoming, Kay and husband Lee Quale of Watertown, Glenda Wells of Crocker, and Jamie and husband Doug Yexley of Bradley; 11 great-grandchildren, Harley and Nathan Wren, Kylie, Jordan, Rebecca, and Moriah Engsdaul and a step-great grandson, Devon Handran of Wyoming, James Mitchel of Sturgis, Caleb, Katelyn, and Karmen Yexley of Bradley; 2 great-great granddaughters, Sawyer and Evalyn Caldwell of Wyoming; 1 great-great grandson, Liam Asher Wrenn; a sister-in-law, Eva Regnier of Watertown; nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Art, who died September 30, 2007, brothers Darrel (Ike) who died June 30, 2002, Donald who died January 12, 2012, and daughter Debra who died December 5, 2020.
