Joyce Deloris (Shirk) Brush was born March 11, 1928 on the family farm northeast of Clark to parents John and Alice (Palmquist) Shirk. She attended Lone Valley Grade School and graduated from Clark High School in 1946.
In 1952, she married Louie Brush. Louie and Joyce had one daughter, Dawn. For nearly 50 years they lived on the farm which in 2002 was designated as a "Century Family Farm." Along with being a farm wife, homemaker and mom, Joyce also worked at the Steve Sherwood Law Office, International Harvester Co. of Watertown, First National Bank of Clark, and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Garden City.
She enjoyed creating homemade greeting cards with her stamping, baking, quilting, crocheting, canvas work, playing Scrabble, Farkle and Bingo, and reading. Since Dawn read Braille, Joyce learned to write Braille to communicate with her daughter. Joyce was a member of the Garden City Methodist Church, Learn Along Extension Club, Clark Lioness Club, SD Association of the Blind, and was the township clerk for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Alice Shirk and a sister, Betty Keyes.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Louie Brush of Clark; daughter, Dawn Brush of Aberdeen; siblings, Lois Eske of Prescott, AZ, Jackie (Tom) Fuller of Eau Claire, WI, and Perry Shirk of Gulf Port, MS; sister-in-law Beverly Brush; and grand-dogs Breezy, Mia, Snickers and Whimsey (deceased). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be mailed to the family at 113 S Idaho, Clark 57225 and will be sent to various charities.
