Mr. Joseph "Joe" A. Langenfeld, age 88, Sioux Falls, formerly of the Watertown and Clark communities, died on Sunday evening at his home in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2PM in the Holy Name Catholic Church at Watertown with burial following in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Watertown. Military rites will be performed by the VFW Post #750 of Watertown. A Liturgical Wake service will be held at 5PM on Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Clark. Visitation will follow the wake service in the Church at Clark. Visitation will continue 1 hour preceding services at the Church in Watertown on Friday afternoon. The Reverend John Lantsberger will officiate at both services. Casketbearers will be Pete Kliegle, Steve and Mike Paulson, Austin Langenfeld, James Makens and John Christenson. Music will be presented by Donna Williams as organist and Nicole Chapman as soloist. He was born at Vermillion, MN on March 24, 1919, the son of Nicholas and Helena (Wiederhold) Langenfeld. The family moved to Milbank, SD where he started school and then later they moved to Watertown where he attended the Immaculate Conception school. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1938. He then entered the Army Air Corps on April 11 of 1942 and served his country until being honorably discharges on January 21 of 1946. He made his home in Watertown after his discharge. On June 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Beulah Paulsen at Mobridge, they lived in Watertown until moving to Clark in September of 1947. While living in Clark, he was employed as a traveling salesperson for various companies including Western Electric, De Fry Technical Inst, College of Automation, Des Moines, IA and for the National Federation of Independent Business retiring in March of 1984. The couple moved to Lake Kampeska in April of 1990 and then in August of 2006 they moved to Sioux Falls. Currently he was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, and a former member of Holy Name Parish in Watertown and St. Michael's Parish in Clark. Some of his favorite pastimes included watching Western movies on AMC and watching professional bull riding. He also enjoyed in younger days hunting and taking his children fishing. Another passion of his was cooking, something he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of the VFW Post #750 at Watertown. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Beulah Langenfeld of Sioux Falls, children, Marie (Kenneth) O'Day, Pamela (Michael) Makens both of Sioux Falls, Claudia (Robert) Dunn of Delavan, WI, Nicholas (Shaleen) Langenfeld, Michael Langenfeld and Joseph A. Langenfeld II all of Sioux Falls and Jane Langenfeld and fianc' John Hadley of Rockford, IL; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brothers, Ralph Langenfeld of Dallas, TX and Gene (Joyce) Langenfeld of Lompoc, CA. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother Edward Langenfeld. Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers to the Union Gospel Mission, 701 E. 8th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103.
