John Audus

John W. Audus, age 91, Clark died in the Golden Living Center at Clark on Wednesday afternoon, November 2, 2016.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue at the Church after 1PM on Monday.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 2PM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller. Casketbearers will be David, Tim, & Bob Audus, Jeff & Adam Hartley, and Dan Eckhoff. Burial with full military honors provided by the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post #60 of Clark and the South Dakota Army National Honor Guard will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.

He was born John Wilbert Audus on November 10, 1924 in Woodland Township, north of Clark, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Miller) Audus. John attended school in Woodland Township also through the 8th grade and then in 1934, the family moved to Day County, near Lily where he attended high school for 2 years. The family then returned to Clark County where he remained the remainder of his life. In his younger days, John was involved in 4-H showing cattle.

In August of 1944 John was inducted into the United States Army and served his country honorably in Company B, 215th Infantry Battalion until April of 1946. He returned to the farm in Thorp Township where he farmed since. In the fall of 2008 he retired, later moved into the Fay Wookey Memorial Assisted Living Center and 3 weeks ago in failing health, moved into the Golden Living Center at Clark.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, James, Walter, Ethan, and Donald Audus, Anna (Lloyd) Hartley, and two sisters in infancy.

Survivors include siblings, Wesley (Mary Ann) Audus of Rochester, MN, Clara Hector of San Juan Capistrano, CA, and Mary (Virgil) Eckhoff of Sioux Falls and sisters-in-law, Arlene Audus of Watertown, Betty Audus of Sherman, TX, and Darlene Audus of Clark.
