Jo Ann Murray

Jo Ann Murray, age 66, Dallas, TX, formerly of Garden City, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 3, 2019, in the Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas after a lingering cancer illness.  She was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Murray, longtime Garden City area farmers.

Burial of her ashes will take place in a private ceremony on Saturday, October 26, 2019, in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.

A Public Celebration of Life reception will also be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Black Claw Bait and Tavern, 17400 428th Ave, Clark, SD 57225 from 6 to 9PM, all are welcome.

Jo Ann Murray was born on December 31, 1952, at Watertown, actually in the back seat of a Chevy on Highway 212, New Year's Eve!, the daughter of Joseph F and Dorothy Ardelle (Spencer) Murray.

Jo Ann attended grade school at Thorp Consolidated, then Bradley High School, graduating in 1971 in a Class of 6.  Following high school, she attended South Dakota State University, graduating 50 years after her father did, in 1975.  While in college she was active in the theatre department, spending one summer in Prairie Village Repertory Theatre at Madison.

During her lifetime she worked in the hotel/hospitality business for some 30 years, under flags such as Marriott, Westin, Le Meridian, Omni, and Doubletree.  She also served 10 years as director of continuing legal education for the American Board of Trial Advocates.

In her free moments she enjoyed traveling, food, cooking, baking, reading and a glass- or three- of wine!

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her brother, Roger of Garden City and her life partner, Donald Callaway of Dallas.
