Janice Wookey-Nordhus

Janice Wookey-Nordhus, age 81, of Clark, died early Friday morning July 11, 2014 at the Golden Living Center at Clark after a brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 from 5-7pm at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was born Janice Peters on April 22, 1933 in Clark, SD to Alvin and Lucille (Dyce) Peters. Janice attended the Lincoln Country School until high school where she graduated from Clark in 1951. After high school, she attended St. John's School of Nursing where she received her Bachelor's degree in nursing and began her life-long career as a registered nurse. On October 27, 1956 she was united in marriage to Kendall Wookey at the United Methodist Church at Clark. To this wonderful marriage there were two sons born, Brent and Kevin. Their lasting marriage came to an end when Kendall passed away in 1995. After the passing of Kendall, Janice eventually re-married to Robert Nordhus of who was her spouse at the time of her death. Janice enjoyed many different activities throughout her life some of which included: Sewing, playing cards, attending the 60's plus dining. Of the many things she thoroughly enjoyed throughout her life, there was no greater reward than watching the many activities her grandchildren participated in. Janice was known as a wonderful nurse by many and was always willing to help someone in need no matter the situation. She was quoted in an article saying, "Nursing is a good profession for someone who really cares for people." From playing nurse with her sister Marjorie as a young girl to spending her life taking care of others, being a nurse was something Janice took great pride in. After being diagnosed with a form of cancer, she had a brief stay at the Golden Living Center in Clark before being called home to be with her lord and savior in heaven. Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband Robert Nordhus of Clark. Two sons, Brent (Christie) Wookey of Watertown, SD and Kevin (Ginny Banek) Wookey of Kimball, SD. Four grandchildren, Hunter and Tucker Wookey of Watertown, Vanessa Wookey of Sioux Falls, SD and Trent Wookey of Kimball. One sister, Marjorie (Vearl) Ehlert of Stewart, MN. Preceding her in death were her first husband Kendall Wookey and her parents.
