She was born Janice Mae Protexter, the first born daughter of Bruce and Lucille (Wood) Protexter on March 25, 1926 at Clark. She attended school at Clark, graduating from Clark High School in 1945. At an early age she worked for Grace Nerger's Grocery Store and then as a waitress at the Harry Brown Café and later at Brekke's Café in Clark.

Bowling was a pastime of Janice's and it is at the Clark Lanes where she met Herb Wegman, from Raymond. She and Herb married on November 17, 1945 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Clark where she was also baptized.

They lived and farmed north of Raymond until early 1948 when they moved into Raymond. In 1952, they bought an International dealership where Janice took over the bookwork, working part time while the children were in school. Later on she worked full time at the dealership and then at Wegman Oil, which was operated by her husband and their son, Robert.

The couple partially retired, hiring office help, and they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Arizona as their favorite travel spots. She and her family also enjoyed many summers at Lake Kampeska, especially on the weekends. They lived in Raymond until moving to Watertown three years ago.

She was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, WELS at Raymond, and the Ladies Aid. Janice was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on July 21, 1946.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a step-father, Melvin Wika, a daughter, Judy Stanley, son-in-law, David Doyen, a sister, Dorcas Protexter and a brother, Richard "Dick" Protexter.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband of over 71 years, Herb Wegman of Watertown, a daughter, Jean Doyen of Watertown, Mary Jane (Elwin) Larson of Omaha, NE, Robert (Barb) Wegman of Raymond, and Janet (Terry) Frost of Grand Lake, OK, a son-in-law, Allen "Bert" (Karen Berg) Stanley of Paynesville, MN; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Protexter of Pierre. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
