He was born on November 19, 2007 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown to parents Jamie and Colleen (Nieuwsma) Hohm, and big sister Jalen Rose.
Jakob lived every day to the fullest and had an incredible zest for life. He had the most amazing smile, the most beautiful sparkly, blue eyes, an infectious giggle, and a voice that could be heard "for miles". It didn't matter if you were young or old, he was a friend to everyone and he never judged anyone. Jakob loved absolutely everything and put 110% into everything he did whether it was at home, working for Hohm Construction, in 3rd grade at school, or on the football or baseball field.
He strived to do his best and absolutely HATED to lose!! He proudly wore that purple and gold #7 for the Willow Lake Pirates baseball team and green and black #33 for the Clark-Willow Lake Junior Cyclones. Even though he was the smallest player on his team, he played with the biggest heart and could always be spotted wearing those hot pink socks in support of breast cancer survivors.
Jakob also LOVED to snowmobile and ride Rzr! He only needed about 3 inches of snow to ride his blue and black Polaris 700. He couldn't wait to someday ride in the "Big Horns" with his dad, his buddy James, and "big brothers" Trevor and Tanner. Jakob was his dad's number 1 side kick, and any chance he got, he would go to work for Hohm Construction. He loved to pour concrete, operate the skidsteer, and most recently drive the pickup and trailer to town. On weekends you could find him shooting his new snow camo 223 gun or bow and arrow at anything he could talk mom or dad into. He loved to go pheasant and deer hunting.
Even though Jakob found great pride in doing "boy stuff", his favorite time of the day was cuddling with mom on the couch and playing with her and his sister Jalen's hair. He never went to bed without saying "I love you, good night, and see you in the morning." Jakob had the faith that God would help him with whatever he needed and every night he would pray for his "Mom, Dad, and big sister, Jalen". In 9 short years, Jakob accomplished more tasks and goals than some of us will ever accomplish in a lifetime. He was a boy far wiser than his years.
Jakob leaves behind his proud parents, Jamie and Colleen, the best big sister, Jalen Rose, grandparents Curt and Barb Nieuwsma and Lanette Jacob, Great-Grandpa Edwin Hohm, uncles (who he loved to pick on) Kelly, Dan, Eric, and Jeremy, Aunt Heather, and his cousins, Brecken and Brynlee, who he loved to facetime from his I-Pad. He is also survived by numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins, and an entire world of friends.
Jakob was greeted in Heaven by his Grandpa Randy, Great Grandma Jean Hohm, Great Grandparents, Peter J. and Bertha Nieuwsma, Wilbur and Henrietta Huenink, and William (Bud) and Lois Stobbs.
May his loving spirit and incredible zest for life live on in all of us.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Special Thanks to Mr. Scott Klaudt of the Willow Lake School District, Mr. Sam Hartley of the Clark School District and the Hamlin School District for accommodating the Tuesday night gym schedule.
