Jack L. Riehm, age 81, of Clark died on Saturday evening in a Watertown hospital after a brief illness. Public graveside services will be held on MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2008 at 2PM in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark with Fr. Bill Hamak officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post of Clark. There will be no visitation. He was born at Geneva, Illinois on July 5, 1926, the son of LeRoy G. and Evelyn R. (Kenyon) Riehm. He attended school in the Chicago area graduating from Amundson High School in Chicago. While in high school he was very active on the wrestling team. On July 17, 1943 he enlisted in the US Air Corps and entered into active service on January 4, 1945. He honorably served his country until November of 1946 and was discharged at the rank of Corporal. During his stint in the Air Force, he earned the title of sharp shooter using several different firing weapons. On April 24, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lois Parks at LaGrange, Illinois. Following their marriage they moved to Redfield, South Dakota where he worked on the Northwestern Railroad, later being transferred to Onida. In the late 1950s, Jack began his career with the State of South Dakota, Game, Fish and Parks Department, first serving in Dupree, South Dakota and then in the fall of 1957 he moved to Clark. He served as Conservation Officer in Clark County until he retired in the late 1980s. While living in Clark he was involved in many civic organizations including being a member of the Clark Volunteer Fire Department, the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post #60, a Boy Scout Leader and was instrumental in the beginning of the wrestling program at Clark High School. Jack was also a member of the South Dakota Peace Officers Association, winning several competitions and awards for being a sharp shooter. He also enjoyed archery starting club west of Clark. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. Some of his hobbies around the house included gardening, being out in the yard and thoroughly enjoying assembling models among them being trains, planes and ships. Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Lois of Clark, a son, Jack W. (Anita) Riehm of Phoenix, AZ, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Claudia D. Orris and 2 brothers, Jerry and Charles.
