Ivy M. (Mrs. Paul) Lobitz, age 89, Watertown, died in the Jenkins Living Center at Watertown on Sunday morning, May 25, 2008. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church at Watertown with the Reverend Eric Grinager officiating. Music will be provided by a string ensemble with members being Deb Anderson, Corby Shelsta, Jessica Vockrodt & Renae Mack. Blair Titze will be the pianist/organist. Burial will be at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. There will be no visitation. She was born at Hazel, SD on March 1, 1919 the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Adams) Buskrud. She grew to adulthood in the Hazel area, attending school there and graduating from Hazel High School. Following her high school education, she continued her schooling and started teaching in the late 1930's, proudly attaining her BS Degree in Education the summer of 1968 from Northern State College. On October 17, 1941 she was united in marriage to Paul Lobitz at Webster. The couple lived in various Northeast South Dakota communities where they both taught school. They have lived in Watertown on Lake Kampeska since the late 1970's. After failing health they became residents of the Castlewood Assisted Living Center and then the Evergreen Assisted Living Center in Watertown before both moving into the Jenkins Living Center 2 years ago. Paul continues to be a resident of Jenkins. Ivys teaching career began in Vienna, SD and then moved on to various communities across Northeast South Dakota. Some of the other schools included Carpenter, Raymond, Doland and Clark. She also substitute taught in Watertown for a period of time, retiring in 1981. One never doubted who was in charge in her classroom! Some of her hobbies included knitting, bowling, playing cards, golfing and reading. Ivy had a fondness of being outdoors and taking part in various activities, whether it was playing croquet in the summer, riding her bike, gardening or traveling. She also enjoyed music. Another passion of hers was being a part of South Dakota Girls State, serving as both a counselor and then a director for some 25 years. Grateful for having shared her life is her husband of nearly 67 years, Paul, a daughter, Mary (Norm) Stahl all of Watertown, a son, Roger (Karen) Lobitz of Eden Prairie, MN, 4 grandchildren, Erin, Nicholle, Paul D. and Kelann and a great-grand son, Seth. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Alvina Buskrud of Portland, OR. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Harold and Lyle.
