Howard B. Schrader, age 90, Clark, died at the Avantara Clark nursing home on Monday evening, October 7, 2019.
Visitation will held on Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 4-6 pm at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 8 am in the chapel on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 14, 2019 in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Reverend Randy Bader officiating. Casket bearers will be Francis Hass, Craig Imme, Steve Haug, and Gary Grove. Barb Wegman will be the pianist. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
Howard Burton Schrader was born on July 13, 1929 in Woodland Township, northwest of Clark, the son of Henry and Anna (Helland) Schrader. He attended country school and then graduated from Clark High School in 1947.
Howard was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in November of 1951 and served his country honorably until 1953. He continued serving his country in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1956, and then following that became the National Guard Administrative Sgt. from 1956 until he retired in May of 1987.
Howard was united in marriage to Joan E. Hageman on July 20, 1955 at Clark Center Lutheran Church. Joan died on February 14, 1996.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church at Raymond, the Cagley-Smith Post 60 American Legion at Clark since 1953, and a life member of the Marine Corps League, Kampeska Northeast Detachment 1079. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting pheasants and other small game.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Joan; sons Brian in 2007 and Bruce in 2010; sisters Evelyn (Erich) Imme, Elizabeth (Henry) Grove, Edna (Robert) Roundy; a sister in infancy; brother-in-law Allen Tipton; and nephews Scott Tipton and Roger Imme.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children Dianne (Wayne) Millar of Wahpeton, ND, Randy (Venus) Schrader of Wilmington, NC and Nancy (Dennis) Schuchhardt of Aberdeen; two grandchildren Caitlyn and Nicholas Schuchhardt; four step grandchildren; sisters Shirley Tipton and Beverly (Loren) Haug; and his nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Great Plains Lutheran High School Building Fund at Watertown or the Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church at Raymond in care of the Schrader family.
