Herbert Marvin Wegman, was born at Raymond on April 26, 1926, the son of Henry and Margaret Emma (Boddin) Wegman. He attended Raymond School and then graduated from Raymond High School as a Raymond Redwing in 1945. During high school he was active in basketball as well as other activities.
Following his schooling he worked on the family farm. On November 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to Janice Protexter at the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ at Clark. They lived and farmed north of Raymond until 1948 when they moved into Raymond. He joined his brother, Harold, and the business was known as Wegman Oil. The team began an International Harvester dealership in 1952. After Harold retired, Herb's son, Robert returned to the business. Herb "Herbie" as many knew him will long be remembered as not only the LP Gas man, but the guy who drove that red or green truck that came to the farm or house and handed out a piece of Juicy Fruit or Dentyne Gum to every child that came running to the truck! His tip of his hat on his head will never be forgotten. He and Robert sold the business in 2014. In 1970 he served as President of the LP Gas Association.
In his community of Raymond, he was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served on the Church board for over 50 years and was a member of the Raymond School Board for 15 years.
Prior to his full retirement, he and Janice enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Arizona being their favorite spots. They also enjoyed much family time at their home on Lake Kampeska. Dancing was always a highlight in his life! The couple left their home in Raymond in 2014 and lived at StoneyBrook Suites. Janice, his wife of over 71 years, died on August 9, 2017. He became a resident of Reflections at Jenkins Living Center in 2017.
Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Judy Stanley, son-in-law, David Doyen, a brother, Harold (Madge) Wegman, a sister-in-law, Dorcas Protexter, and a brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" (Jeanette) Protexter.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Jean Doyen of Watertown, Mary Jane (Elwin) Larson of Omaha, NE, Robert (Barb) Wegman of Raymond, and Janet (Terry) Frost of Grand Lake, OK. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a son-in-law, Allen "Bert" (Karen Berg) Stanley of Paynesville, MN.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
