Helen M. (Mrs. Marvin) Mitchell, age 79 of Clark. She died on Sunday evening, July 18, 2004 in the Lake Norden Care Center where she had resided for 2 years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10:30 AM in the St. Michaels Catholic Church at Clark with the Reverend Bill Hamak officiating. Burial will be in the St. James (Collins) Cemetery at Willow Lake with military rites. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a Liturgical Wake service beginning at 6PM at in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to services in the church. She was born at Bancroft, SD, the daughter of Merle and Lillian (Kenny) Jencks. She grew to adulthood in the Bancroft vicinity attending school there and graduating from Bancroft High School. Following her schooling she enlisted in the United States Navy on March 22, 1945. She was medically discharged in 1946. On November 19, 1945 she was united in marriage to Marvin Mitchell at Rockford, Maryland. He was transferred in the military to Bremerton, WA where the family moved. They lived for a time also in Oregon and then in 1950 moved to Bancroft, SD. In 1964 they moved to Clark and purchased the Independent Lumber Company, later called it the M & H Lumber. After the closing of the business, she continued helping run the family farm near Bancroft. She became a resident of the Lake Norden Care Center in May of 2002. She was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church at Clark and a lifetime member of the American Legion at Raymond. Some of her fondest moments though were spent being outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and walking. Survivors include her husband Marvin, Lake Norden Care Center, Son, Daniel Mitchell and wife Ramona of Sturgis, SD, a daughter, Nancy Bethke and husband Nick of Wakefield, Nebraska, a Sister-in-Law, Marie Hageman of Worthington, MN, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Ted Mitchell in 1973, a grandson, Eugene Mitchell, a great-grandson, Michael A. Flaaen, and two brothers, Edwin Jencks and Kenneth Jencks.
