Harry Dean Kannegieter, age 84, Lake Norden, formerly of the DeSmet/Willow Lake area, died late Thursday, November 15, 2018 in the Lake Norden Care and Rehabilitation Center at Lake Norden. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Lake Gospel Church at Willow Lake, SD.  Pastors Terry Drew and Jim Uthe will officiate.  The organist will be JoLayne Symens, with special music provided by Lori Kannegieter, Tammy Dvorak, and Harry Dean's nieces and nephews.  Burial will be at a later date in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.  There will be no visitation.

He was born Harry Dean Kannegieter on October 3, 1934 near Willow Lake, the son of John Samuel and Rosetta (Sneiderman) Kannegieter.  He attended school in Willow Lake, graduating from WLHS in 1952.  He then helped with his Dad's trucking business and worked for some area farmers.  In February of 1955 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, was trained at Fort Sill, OK and served in Korea for one year.

On June 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Loris Warkenthien.  The couple lived in Willow Lake while Harry Dean worked on a farm.  The summer of 1958 he decided to pursue more education.  He graduated from Northern State College at Aberdeen in 1962 and went on to teaching positions at Bancroft and Brandon Valley.  He did graduate work also at South Dakota State University graduating in 1968.

Harry Dean and Loris adopted Brad while living in Bancroft and then Larry and Lori while living in Brandon.

Deciding to change careers from teaching to banking and insurance, they moved back to Willow Lake where he worked at Citizens State Bank.  Later he sold insurance for DeSmet Farm Mutual and his own, Kannegieter Insurance Agency.  Harry retired in 1997 and moved to DeSmet in 2010.   In his free moments he enjoyed hunting deer.

Harry Dean was a member of the Presbyterian Reformed Church United of Willow Lake and later the Christian Missionary Reformed Church at DeSmet.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and in-laws, Gene (Delores) Warkenthien, Alan and Nola Tellinghuisen, Jim Brekke, and Robert Warkenthien.

Survivors include his wife Loris of Lake Norden, children, Bradley (Karla) Kannegieter of Lake Norden/Willow Lake, Larry (Betty) Kannegieter of DeSmet, and Lori Kannegieter of Bailey, CO; grandchildren, Damian Kannegieter, Tawni (Cameron) Garry, Nathanial Dvorak, and Jeff Adkins; great-grandchildren, Embrie Garry and Owen Kannegieter.  He also is survived by in-laws, Lavonne Brekke, Shirley (Vernon) Stroschein, Gaylen (Larry) Grensberg, and Bobette Warkenthien and several nieces and nephews.
