Mr. Harold Wookey, age 75, of rural Webster, SD, northwest of Crocker, died in a Watertown hospital early Friday morning, November 2, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 11AM in the Crocker Lutheran Church at Crocker, SD with Minister Marion Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Music will be provided by Marvine Obermeier as organist with Marvine Obermeier and Wendy Christmas singing. Also singing will be Jackie Goldie. Honorary Casketbearers are member of Clark High School Class of 1952. Active Casketbearers will be Tom and John Wookey, Howard and Ryan Easthouse, Jerry Goldie and LeRoy Monson. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-7 PM with Masonic Rites being at 7PM all in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the Church after 10AM. He was born in the home of Mabel Stacey at Clark, the son of Ralph and Fern (Hart) Wookey. He attended school in Day Township and then was a 1952 graduate of Clark High School. On October 23, 1954 he was united in marriage to Merna Louise Easthouse at the Clark United Methodist Church where he was also baptized. To this union, two children were born, Marlys Treva and Dwight Ralph. The couple has lived and farmed for many years northwest of Crocker. He was a lifelong farmer who took great pride in his work, loved the land and his livestock. In 1993 he retired, but did not lose interest in agriculture and was so happy that his soon took over farming more than anything. He was a member of the Crocker Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for many years as well as formerly singing in the Mens Chorus. He was a member of the F&AM Masonic of Raymond and the NE Yelduz Shrine Club of Aberdeen where he was in the Scooter Patrol and the Clown Unit. He also bowled for many years and loved to hunt deer. Harold loved his family and never missed his childrens and grandchildrens activities. His family was his life and he dearly cherished the special camping trips. He also thoroughly enjoyed dancing. The couple shared a special bond as they worked side by side everyday of their married life, wherever you found one, the other was surely close by. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Merna of rural Webster, a daughter, Marlys Treva Mitchell and husband Mark of Upton, WY, a son, Dwight Ralph Wookey and wife Fran of Britton, 6 grandchildren, Stanton Hicks and wife Jennifer, Kiel Harold Hicks, Collin Scott Hicks, Philip Dwight, Melissa Lea and Michelle Ann Wookey and 3 great grandchildren, Tyrel, Trenton and Andrew Hicks; a brother, Merlyn Wookey and wife Alice of Webster and a sister, Clarine Zugschwerdt of Denver, CO.
