Harold Leroy Whirledge, 89, of Bryant, SD, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society - De Smet, SD.
A family graveside service will be held, per his wishes, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery in Bryant. Reverend Colin Beveridge will officiate. A time to celebrate his life will follow, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Cutler Laube shop in Bryant, all are invited to come celebrate his life.
Harold Leroy Whirledge was born in rural Willow Lake, SD on October 12th, 1934, to Ted and Mabel (Poline) Whirledge. Harold graduated from Rosedale Country School in the 8th grade. He then worked for various farmers and joined the National Guard.
On March 2nd, 1956, Harold and Evelyn Knock were joined in marriage in Lennox, SD. They then moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Harold did his basic training for six months. They returned home where Harold farmed south of Willow Lake.
Harold was a member of the Willow Lake Lions Club, served on the Sight and Service Board, was on the Washington Township Board, and served on the Cenex Board of Bryant, SD. He enjoyed working with horses and cattle, pheasant and deer hunting, being in parades with his tractor and team of horses, and going south to Arizona in the wintertime.
Harold is survived by his wife Evelyn of Bryant, children: Donna Whirledge of Brookings, SD and Debra (Dallas) Laube of Bryant, granddaughter Elizabeth Moulton of Willow Lake, grandson Cutler Laube of Bryant, brothers Roger Whirledge and Larry (JoAnn) Whirledge, as well as several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Mabel Whirledge, sister-in-law Jerone Whirledge, and niece Teresa Whirledge and Cody Verdon.
