Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and 1 hour preceding services at the Church on Monday morning. She was born, Helma Anita Schrum, on February 27, 1919 near Bradley, the daughter of Herman and Olga Augusta (Ewoldt) Schrum. Anita's grandparents were immigrants from Germany. She attended school in Bradley and graduated form Bradley High School. She went on to graduate from Business College in Mitchell. Her father paid the school's tuition with delivery of one of his cows. She went to work for the U.S. Weather Bureau in Kansas City, Kansas and Cheyenne, Wyoming. She married Morris Odin Luvaas May 20, 1943. When Morris left to serve in the US Army Air Force in India and Burma, Anita returned to Clark and eventually started working for the US Department of Agriculture where she continued working for approximately 40 years. She and Morris raised 3 children: Dixie Maureen, Sandra Jeanne and Darrell Odin. Anita was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark her entire adult life where she was active in the WELCA, serving as treasurer and a circle leader among other activities in the Church. Among civic activities she was active in the American Legion auxiliary, serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer and was also a former member of the Clark County Historical Society. She enjoyed sewing, quilt-making and crocheting and sharing her beautiful handiwork with others. But most of all, Anita was a devoted wife, mother. and grandmother. She was a wonderful role model for her children. She paved the way before it was common place to be a working Mom. But most of all, she was centered on her family. She would rush home at lunchtime to fix their lunch, encourage them to participate in many activities and attended every event they were in, driving them and their friends to every out of town school game and event - regardless of the weather. She strongly believed in contributing back to the community of Clark, society in general and truly tried to live as Jesus had taught. Grateful for having shared in her life are three children, Dixie Vella and husband Alex of Bloomington, MN; Sandy Ingwaldson of Plymouth, MN and Darrell Luvaas and wife Ayong of Rapid City, SD; three grandsons: Eric Luvaas of Rapid City, SD , Jace Ingwaldson and wife Lauren of Golden Valley, MN and Anthony Vella of Mound, MN ; a sister, Vesta Moen, of Whittier, CA , sister-in laws: Myrtle Schrum of Clark, Esther Bjerke and husband, Richard of Crocker; Lauretta Luvaas of Bradley and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Morris in 2005, a brother, Hugo Schrum and a sister Hazel Schrum. Email condolences at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
