Guida Bethene Leiviska

Guida Bethene (Rieke) Leiviska, age 76, Pierre, formerly of Clark, died in the Golden Living Center at Pierre on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She was the widow of John S. Leiviska. Funeral services will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at 1PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Pastor Donna Nickels officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Visitation will be held on Friday morning after 9AM in the funeral home chapel. Guida B. (Rieke) Leiviska was born Jan. 17, 1935 at Mrs. Stacey's (a midwife) in Clark, SD. She was born the fourth child of Lloyd and Elva (Kruthoff) Rieke of Carpenter, SD. She grew up on the farm in Fordham Township, went to a little country grade school also in Fordham Township and then attended high school in Clark, SD. Guida moved to Aitkin, MN to be near her older sister, Mary Jane. This is where she met and married her husband, John Leiviska. In 1957 a son, Terry Leiviska was born to the couple. They then moved to SD, and John took a mechanic job in Willow Lake, SD where they lived by her other sister, Agnes Lamp and her husband Jesse. The couple moved to Wolsey, SD and John got a job as a welder at Huron Manufacturing Co. They both really liked their trip to Australia with John's work. Due to no sales he was laid off. They moved back to Aitkin, Mn where they settled down with a good job with a welding company and Guida being a full time housewife. She loved to raise a garden and also liked to crochet. In 1993 she lost her husband John to bad accident at work. In 2005 she moved to Pierre, SD to a retirement home to be near her youngest sister Carole Roussel and husband Jim. She was preceded in death by her husband John Leiviska, parents Lloyd and Elva Rieke, and daughter-in-law Wilma Leiviska. She is survived by her son, Terry Leiviska of Anchorage, AK. Siblings: Mary Jane Snavely and husband Robert of San Diego, CA, Agnes Lamp and husband Jesse of Watertown, SD, Robert Rieke and wife Rose of Clark, SD and Carole Roussel and husband Jim of Pierre, SD. Also a granddaughter Deanna, grandson Dexter and three Great Granddaughters survive her.
