Gordon C. Meyer, age 84, Clark, died in the Good Samaritan Center in Windom, MN on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Robin Schaunaman officiating. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist with a granddaughter, Katie Hunerdosse as soloist. She will sing "How Deep the Father's Love for Us". The congregation will sing, "Here I Am Lord" & "Abide with Me". The active casketbearers will be Heath Rice, Jeremy Bloomgren, Ben Myrvold, Brent, Patrick & Jacob Meyer. Honorary casketbearers will be Dick McGraw, Craig Rasmusson, Walt Steiger, Wayne Rice, Clarence "Zoom" Neill, Gerald Hartley, Joe Hulscher and Levi Flora. Burial will be at 11AM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 9AM at the Church on Friday morning. He was born Gordon Clarence Meyer on January 27, 1927 at Pender, Nebraska, the son of Clarence H. and Anna (Johnson) Meyer. He was educated in country schools near Emerson, NE and then attended Emerson High School. Gordon was inducted into the United States Navy while in high school, actually obtaining his diploma during his military service. He served his country honorably from January of 1945 to November of 1947, receiving various service medals. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Gulbronson on September 30, 1952. They lived and worked in Sioux City, IA. Gordy began a lifelong career with Northern Natural Gas/Enron, a career that spanned over 35 years. After working in South Sioux City, he was transferred to Sioux Falls, SD as a Class A welder and then in the summer of 1958, he was transferred to Clark until 1966. They moved to Trimont, MN and in 1981, transferred to Evanston, WY until his retirement in the mid 1980's. In 1993, they returned to Clark where they have resided since. Even after his retirement, Gordy has worked third party with Northern Natural Gas/Enron as a consultant. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith attending St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark. Gordy enjoyed horses, tending to many "neighbor" cats, fixing clocks, genealogy, and being active in maintaining Clark County Cemetery records and assisting in the upkeep and restoration of area cemeteries. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Eugene. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife of nearly 60 years, JoAnn of Clark, children, Candace (Harlan) Leopold of Chanhassen, MN, Cynthia (Keith) Bloomgren of Windom, MN, Cheryl (TJ) Brown of Heron Lake, MN, Clark (Roxann) Meyer of Litchfield, MN, Cevyn (Laurie) Meyer of Florence, SC and Christopher (Linda) Meyer of Topeka, KS, 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
