Glenn E. Scott, Sr., age 94, Naples, died in the Prairie Lakes Hospital late Thursday night, May 12, 2016 after suffering an apparent stroke/heart attack in the first week of May.
Per Glenn's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services at this time. Burial will be in the Naples Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born on July 5, 1921 in northern Clark County, the son of Lester and Francis (Caulfield) Scott. The family moved to a farm west of Hazel in 1927. Glenn attended Oxford #4 country school, the Vienna High School for the first two years and graduated from Hazel High School in 1940.
After his schooling, he rented land with a friend and farmed in Hamlin County for a year. He then moved to California, enlisted into the United States Army Air Force and served his country from 1942 until 1947.
He returned to South Dakota following his discharge, farmed and also began selling the Freeman Head Bolt Heater and Bars Leak.
On September 9, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary Wenn in the First Baptist Church at Watertown. They moved to St. Paul, MN for a short time and then to Madison, WI. In the fall of 1953 they moved to Nashville, TN where he continued selling automotive products. In the fall of 1960 they returned to the farm near Hazel due to the death of his parents. He retired from farming in 1991 and moved into Naples.
Anyone who knew Glenn knows he loved farming and in town, raising a big garden. In fact, he already had gotten most of his garden planted just a few days before his stroke. He will also be remembered for his love of having conversations!, we will leave it at that!
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Scott, and siblings, Vernon, LeRoy, Donald and Lois Stanton.
Survivors include his wife Mary, son Glenn E. Scott, Jr both of Naples, a daughter, Linda Wright of New Hebron, MS- near Jackson, and a grandson, Eric (Brittany) Scott of Sioux Falls. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Andie Scott of Ellensburg, WA and many nieces, and nephews.
