He was born on October 7, 1915 near Bradley, the son of Frank and Eliza (Hastings) Phelps. He attended country school and after his education helped on the family farm. On October 17, 1939 he was united in marriage to Leona Peterson at Clark. They lived and farmed north of Bradley for a short time before moving to the farm east of Bradley where they lived and farmed until retiring in 1977. After he retired, they continued living on the farm until failing health. He has been a resident of the Bethesda Care Center in Webster for some 4 years. Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting and traveling. Glenn was very handy with woodworking, in fact building a new home for them on the farm and was known for his welding capabilities. He was always willing to lend a hand to others. Over the years, the Phelps had many young hired men, all of whom he thought the world of. He was a kid at heart, even buying a snowmobile with a reverse in it after he was in his early 80s. In the community, he was a former member of the Blaine Township School Board and had been a long time member of the Baptist Church at Bradley until it closed. Up until the time of ill health, he had been attending the United Methodist Church at Garden City. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Leona of Webster, children, Ashley (Bud) Phelps and wife Marlyce of Ft.Pierre, SD, Nina Grout of Aberdeen, Linda Briggs and husband Roger of Rapid City, Kathy Audus and Debra Bucy and husband Kelly all of Sioux City, IA; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
