Gladys Mattie Peterson, age 95, Clark, the widow of Merle Peterson, died on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2009 in the Golden Living Center at Clark Clark. She had resided in the care center since September of 2007. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11AM in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ at Clark with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist and Roger Nordhus as soloist. Casketbearers will be Dale, Doug, Donnie and Rick Peterson and Chase and Chaz Fredrickson. Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and 1 hour preceding services at the Church on Tuesday. Gladys was born on May 1, 1914 at Andover, SD, the daughter of John and Alma (Karnopp) Campbell, the third of fifteen children. She moved with her family to Clark County in 1919 and lived here her entire life except for a few years in Sioux Falls later in her life. She married Merle D. Peterson on September 7, 1932, they farmed in the Garden City and Darlington Township area until they retired and moved to Clark in 1977 Merle died on August 15, 1993. Gladys will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren and playing pinochle at every opportunity. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, siblings, Roy Campbell, Helen Rogers, Olive Stanley, Lucille Zugschwerdt, Edith Fahey, Shirley Bentz, Marian Barker, Delores Hartwig and Florence Adam. She is survived by her sons Richard (Helen) and Ernest all of Sioux Falls, Ronald (Sharon) of Waco, TX, siblings, Lillian (Les) Williams of Little Rock, AR, Pat (George) Stafford of Phoenix, AZ, John (Betty) Campbell of Huron, SD, Delbert (Edna) Campbell of Riverside, CA and Wayne (Jan) Campbell of Detroit Lakes, MN. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials would be preferred to the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ Womens Fellowship of Clark, of which Gladys was an active member of for many years.
