Born in Iowa on May 30, 1951, to Paul and Esther (Seams) Muessigmann, Gary attended and later graduated from high school in Jewel, IA.  Following graduation, he attended college for a time, eventually joining and proudly serving in the Iowa National Guard.  Gary later left Iowa for Aberdeen, SD where he began working for Tractor Supply, which led to him taking a position with the company in Watertown, SD.  Gary also held positions as a medication aide at Rotell Senior Housing of Clark, and Wookey Assisted Living Center of Clark.

Gary loved to fish and read books, especially Stephen King novels.  His love for the author quickly led to him amassing a large collection-in fact, he may have read every book he wrote!  In 2003, Gary was united in marriage to his wife, Carmen, and the couple made their home in Groton, SD until moving to Clark.  Reflecting their love of animals, Gary and Carmen started the local Clark Trap, Neuter, and Return program where they helped feral cats in need.  Following an illness, Gary entered Avantara Clark, where he spent the final year of his life until his passing.

Gary is survived by his wife, Carmen, of Clark; brother, Duane (Mina) of Santee, CA; sister Phyllis Range of Ames, IA; mother-in-law Connie Rossow of Clark; sister-in-law Tracy Wells of Clark; sister-in-law Christine Rossow of Waubay; brother-in-law Jeremie (Kristal) of Oceanside, CA; and nephew John "Jack" Hollinrake of Lincoln, NE.

He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Esther; and his siblings Pauline, Don, Bill, and Richard.
